Why the name? I drive a truck, I’m on the road, and I’m watching America, and quite frankly, I don’t like what I am seeing lately.
This radio show is like no other. I broadcast from different locations depending on where I am at for my job. Sometimes I will be at home with a great connection, other times I might be out in the middle of nowhere talking on a cell. All my topics are not trucking related, however I will not hesitate to bring up trucking issues as they arise. So you never know what you’re going to get here.
When the show is live (10pm to 11pm central time Tuesdays), you can click the Talk Stream link above and look for Matt Smith. Then click that and the following AVRN link on the next page to go to the audio streams page on AVR.

by Matt on Mar.06, 2010, under economy, trucking
Man I hope these guys really mean it this time and it’s not some BS to lull us into thinking they are on our side and are legitimately wanting to repeal NAFTA.

WASHINGTON — A small group of U.S. lawmakers unveiled legislation on Thursday to withdraw from the North American Free Trade Agreement in the latest sign of congressional disillusionment with free-trade deals.
The bill spearheaded by Rep. Gene Taylor, a Mississippi Democrat, would require President Barack Obama to give Mexico and Canada six months notice that the United States will no longer be part of the 16-year-old trade pact.
“At a time when 10 to 12 percent of the American people are unemployed, I think Congress has an obligation to put people back to work,” Taylor said. (continue reading…)

Don’t Talk To Cops… EVER!

Answering questions is a sure way to go to jail.
(Excerpts reposted from http://community-2.webtv.net/CNYWP/)
“GOOD MORNING! My name is Investigator Johnson with the, (insert your town here) Police Dept. Do you mind answering a few simple questions?”
If you go to your door one day and are greeted with these words, STOP AND THINK! No matter whether it is the local Police or the F.B.I. at your door, you have certain legal rights of which you ought to be aware before you proceed any further…
DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS!
In the first place, when the law enforcement authorities come to see you, there are NO “simple questions”. Unless they are investigating a traffic accident, you can be sure that they want information about somebody. And that somebody may be you!

Interesting stuff. I’m not sure how true it all is but it sure seems like many police departments across the nation practice the same principals.

CRUEL & UNUSUAL?
Get the perp’s attention with a quick whack on the head. “Cops have found the radio to be an effective form of communication,” says a veteran of a Hell’s Kitchen beat. “It’s got an extra frequency, shall we say.”
Get the perp’s attention with a quick whack on the head using a phone book and a nightstick. (continue reading…)

Good advice…
If Nobody Talks — Everybody Walks!
Say there is a group and let’s say that this group is suspected of committing a certain crime. The Police know there are 25 people in this group, and have decided to question each of them.
They begin by questioning member number 25. Member number 25 tells the Police that at the time of the alleged crime he was bowling. The Police check out his story and find it to be true.
The Police then go on to question number 24. He tells them that he was with friends viewing a movie at the Acme Theater. This story also checks out to be true. (continue reading…)
